In the Beginning Was the Word: The Place of Narrative in the Construction of Reality

A Conversation with Acclaimed Science Fiction Writer Ken Liu

Niels Bohr declared that physics is not about how the world is, but what we can say about the world. Does science uncover objective reality, or is it merely one narrative among many concerning human experience? What is the role of storytelling in the scientific process? What can scientists learn from story-telling? Join theoretical physicist and astrobiologist Sara Walker in conversation with science fiction writer Ken Liu for a deep and wide-ranging discussion on the nature of narrative and science. Professor Ed Finn of the Center for Science and Imagination Presides.

The conversation will take place Nov. 13, 2023 at 6:30pm in Marston Theater located in: ISBT4 - Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building IV.
Address: 781 S Terrace Rd, Tempe, AZ 85281
