Join us for a monthly webinar series, ASK A PHYSICIST, with renowned physicists Paul Davies, Sara Walker and Maulik Parikh from the Beyond Center for Fundamental Concepts in Science at Arizona State University. Each webinar will address a big question in physics and the audience can submit questions ahead of time or during the webinar to add to the discussion! This month, Paul Davies and Maulik Parikh will be joined by guest presenter Nicole Yunger Halpern, a theoretical physicist at the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science at the University of Maryland and author of Quantum Steampunk: The Physics of Yesterday’s Tomorrow.

October's webinar: What if the Victorians had discovered quantum computing?

Steampunk is a genre of literature, art, and film that juxtaposes futuristic technologies with Victorian settings. This fantasy is coming to life at the intersection of energy science developed during the Victorian era, with quantum physics and information science. Quantum physicist Nicole Yunger Halpern calls the booming discipline quantum steampunk.

This webinar is free and open to the public, however space is limited and registration is required.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

Please submit your questions for discussion to deepthought@asu.edu with the subject ‘ASK A PHYSICIST Question: What if the Victorians had discovered quantum computing?’.

Questions can also be submitted during the webinar through the zoom Q&A!
